The external urachal sinus, a persistent embryonic remnant and extension of the urachal apex, consists of a blind tract opening at the umbilicus. This disorder may be symptomatic at any age and associated with infectious discharge. Traditionally, a twostage procedure consisting of primary drainage and delayed surgical incision is performed. However, laparoscopic surgery is now considered an attractive alternative treatment. We report the case of a 53-year-old man who had experienced umbilical discharge for two weeks. After an initial empiric antibiotic treatment and dressing changes, laparoscopic excision of the urachal sinus was performed, resulting in an uneventful postoperative course, reduced postoperative pain, a better cosmetic effect, and a rapid convalescence.
