相較於其他古典的社會學者（例如：馬克思與涂爾幹），韋伯以 「民族國家」來做為認識「社會」的首要方式，可以說是獨具特色的 觀點。如何從此一觀點來理解韋伯的作品，將會是本文關注的焦點之 一。基本上，在韋伯政治社會學的討論中，有兩個相當重要的概念： 「民族國家」和「支配」。在本文中，筆者將會從三個部分來加以討 論：首先，從韋伯作品史的爭議出發，來呈現出韋伯早期研究以「民 族國家」做為價值關聯的理論意義；其次，透過與馬基維利君王論傳 統的對照，來凸顯出韋伯政治社會學所含藏的思想史意義；最後，經 由對「支配社會學」的討論，來將韋伯民族國家的價值關聯置入更廣 闊的社會學視野中來加以理解，反過來這也會更加充實了我們對民族 國家討論的掌握。此外，筆者也嘗試去指出，韋伯政治社會學的研究 具體而微地表現出19世紀德國思想發展上的特色之一，亦即，馬基 維利的國家理性和德國觀念論哲學傳統的「相遇」；換句話說，韋伯 也巧妙地在社會學的知識中融合了這兩個思想傅統的成分，進而構成 對民族國家重要的思考方式。

As compared with other classic sociologists, such as Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim, Max Weber proposes a specifically theoretical proposition: “Nation-state is society.” In this essay, one of my research focuses is to examine how the proposition makes us understand Weber’s works. Basically, “nation-state” and “domination” are two key concepts in Weber’s political sociology. There are three main arguments in this essay. Firstly, in the early research stage, “nation-state” is important value-relevance for Weber; secondly, in comparison with Machiavelli’s thought, we can find Weber’s theoretical position in the history of thought; finally, in the discussion of “the domination of sociology”, the concept of “nationstate” remains important value- relevance for Weber. In addition, I want to point out that Weber’s political sociology expresses the character of German thought in 19th century, i.e. Machiavelli’s concept of raison d’etat “meets” the philosophical tradition of German idealism.
