雜草科學所涉及之研究對象為數目極其龐大之各類植物。對雜草種類之確認及確認及對使用名稱之共識乃成為雜草科學發展之重要先決條件。過去三十年間，本省有為數不少之雜草調查報告及專門書籍發表印行；但多數之此類典籍具有特定之範圍或對象，且很多早期出版之文獻目前已不易取得，在利用上極為不便。因此筆者乃收集光復後各種主要之雜草文獻（表一）加以整理、察核重覆記載並加入新資料而編成此名彙。希望能為相關領域中之工作者提供一簡便、正確且函蓋層面深廣之參考資料。名彙記錄之雜草除一般水旱田所發生者外，並包括森林苗圃及部份非耕地雜草。共記有95科542種植物；其中屬蕨類植物者14科24種，雙子植物者65科359種，單子葉植物者16科159種。

This list , prepared after a comprehensive review of all majorreferences regarding to weeds in T.aiwan , includes 517 species ofplant. Of the plants presented, there are 156 monocotyledon and339 dicotyledon species, while the rest 22 taxon belong to thePteriphyta.The whole list consists of two parts: In the first one, weedsare arranged according to the alphabatical order of their scientificnames; In the second one, weeds of the same family are groupedand presented with reference to alphabetical order of both familyand scientific names.Chinense name, synonymy, andfor English name are givenalong with scientific name.In the treatement of scientific names and taxanomic positionof weeds , the "Flora of Taiwan" has been used as a major guidance.
