嘉南地區稻作栽培面積第一期作約6至7萬公頃，中間作及第二期作約12萬公頃，其中直播面積約1萬至1萬5千公頃，自民國60年示範推廣施用殺草劑後，至70年使用面積達97%以上，主要殺草劑為馬上除，掃丹、掃丹－M、一克草、克草丹等。目前用殺草劑推廣上的改進意見是統一藥劑名稱，加強藥劑問題的和協試驗，並研究其長期使用下的土壤反應。

In Chianan District there are 60,000-70.000 ha paddy field in the first crop, and 120,000 ha paddy field in the second crop (involve direct seeded rice about 12,000 ha). The area of herbicides applied to control weeds is over 97 percent since demonstration in 1971. The main applied herbicides are machete, saturn, saturn-M, X-52, X-52+ machete etc. Although herbicide application is so wide, we still have some opinions on extension as following: 1) Standarize the names of herbicides, 2) Strengthen relative test of medicaments and 3) Research the soil reaction under continuous applied herbicide .
