近年來由於生活在水泥叢林般的都市環境中的人們，渴望戶外生活，回歸大自然，因此提供人們休閒，遊憩及美化景觀的草坪，是人們夢寐以求的。草坪還具有許多維護環境的功能，因此在推動環境綠化，改善生活環境品質的今天，草坪漸受國人重視。曾就全省重要草坪草種進行調查(1986~1988)，初步選出適十二種草，可作為本省大規模設置草坪之用，它們是：類地毯草(Axonopus affinis Chase)、地毯草(Axonopus compressus (SW.) P. Beause)、狗牙根(Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.)、竹節草(Chrysopogon accculatus (Rety) trin)、假儉草(Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack.)、兩耳草(Paspalum conyingatum Berg.)、雙穗雀稗(Paspalum distichum Linn.)、百喜草(Paspalum notatum Fliigge)、舖地狼尾草(Pennisetum cladestium)、奧古斯丁草(Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze)、馬尼拉芝(Zoysia matrella Merr.)、高麗芝(Zoysia tenuifolia Willd.)。有關草坪之研究，目前正屬起步階段，盼能獲得研究機關之正視，以研究本省適合的草類及適當的栽植管理的方法，發展出具有本省特色的草坪。

During 1986 to 1988, island wide survey has been conducted for major turf. Twelve species which are suitable to establish as turf are Axonopus affinis Chase, Axonopus compressus (SW.) P. Beause, Cynodon dactylon ( L. ) Pers., Chrysopogon accculatus (Rety) Trin., Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack., Paspalum conyingatum Berg., Paspalum distichum Linn., Paspalum notatum Fliigge, Pennisetutn cladestium, Stenotaphrum secunda/urn (Walt.) Kuntze., Zoysia matrella Merr. and Zoysia tenuifolia Willd. Research in regard to turf is in its initial stage, more attention should be devoted by research institutes to investigate weed species or cultivars which are most adaptable and methods of its jnanagement in Taiwan.
