Bentazon is the herbicide effectively applied in weed control of broad-leaf weeds, which is used by foliar application postemergently. The primary action of bentazon is to compete with plastoquinone for D1 protein, results in blocking of electron transfer of PSII.Reviewing the related studies, it could be found that the bentazon-tolerant inbred lines of maize have tolerance due to detoxification of bentazon by a monooxyenase, as well as reduction of herbicide uptake and translocation. Base on the genetic studies, it was postulated that bentazon sensitivity is controlled by a single reccessive gene.
